Leicester Diwali and Christmas 2024
With the announcement that Leicester City Council will be celebrating Diwali and Christmas this year, an exciting new addition for locals comes. For those not in tune with Indian culture or tradition – let alone British terms of celebration- it can be challenging to know what is happening during these festivities at first glance.
But as soon as you see LED lights lighting up buildings around town from top floors down below onto pavements where people dance under strings music played by brass instruments while others light fireworks they bought just before coming over here (or sometimes themselves), all becomes clear!
Leicester Christmas celebrations
The massive undertaking of decorating Leicester city centre for the holidays will commence in just a few days. Thousands of Christmas lights will soon illuminate the city, but first they must be hung before the big reveal in about a month.
As usual, plenty of festive decorations and a nativity scene will be adorning Town Hall Square. Meanwhile, crews from Leicester City Council will be busy stringing lights above 20 of the city’s shopping areas to spread holiday cheer. This year’s Christmas Lights Switch On celebration is set for Thursday, November 17.
Preparations for this enormous task kick off on Tuesday, October 18. Most of the work to hang lights and decorations will take place early mornings and weekends to minimise disruption.
Soon enough, Leicester will be aglow with holiday spirit thanks to the efforts of city workers and the thousands of Christmas lights they painstakingly installed. The lighting ceremony will be a festive sight to behold!
